✍️Presentational Writing

One of the FRQ's that is part of the AP Japanese exam is a compare and contrast article. You will type your response on a computer so make sure you are comfortable typing in Japanese. You will have 20 minutes to prepare and write your article. 

Requirements 

1. Describe at least three aspects of each of the topics
2. Highlight similarities and/or differences
3. State your preference and provide reasons
4. Article should be 300-400 characters or more

Examples

Write an article in which you compare and contrast a Japanese urban lifestyle and a Japanese rural lifestyle. (日本の都会の暮らしと田舎の暮らしを比べて下さい。)

Write an article in which you compare and contrast the role of parents and the role of grandparents in a Japanese family. 

🗣️Oral Cultural Presentation

Another FRQ will assess presentational speaking skills in which you will have to make an oral cultural presentation about a certain Japanese topic. You will have 4 minutes to prepare and 2 minutes to record your presentation. 

Requirements

1. Discuss at least 5 aspects or examples about your topic
2. Begin with appropriate introduction
3. Explain personal view or perspective
4. End with a concluding remark

Examples

Present your own view or perspective on Japanese families. Discuss at least FIVE aspects or examples of Japanese families. (日本の家族について話して下さい。）

Present your own view or perspective on Japanese celebrations. Discuss at least FIVE aspects or examples of Japanese celebrations. (Sample Answer below)

• Introduction:- こんにちは、私の名前は＿＿＿＿＿です。これから日本のお祝いについて話します。　　　
• Five aspects/examples:- まずは七五三です。このお祝いは女の子も男の子もやります。女の子は三歳と七歳、男の子は五歳の時にお祝いします。- 七五三は十一月にあり、家族全員で着物を着て神社にお参りに行きます。一番子供が楽しみにするのが千歳あめです。- 次のお祝いは成人式です。これは二十歳になる時に行われます。このお祝いも着物を着て、友人同士、または家族も同伴で市役所が開催する成人式のイベントに出席します。- このイベントが終わると、友人と買い物したり写真を撮ったりして楽しい時間を過ごします。大人として社会に出て行く前の最後の重要なお祝いです。- 最後に、還暦を紹介します。還暦は六十歳の人をお祝いします。
• My own perspective:- 私は日本のお祝いは好きです。子供の時も大人になった時もお祝いがあるからです。アメリカと比べてもっと人生をありがたく生きることを学ぶ事が出来ると思います。
• Conclusion:- まとめに、日本人は何回もお祝いをします。七五三の時も成人式の時も家族や友人と楽しい時間を過ごせるので日本のお祝いはとても良い事だと思います。ご清聴ありがとうございました。
