🌸 The first ever classic novel I read was Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. I related its presentations of 19th c. Russian society to the structures and hierarchies of today's world. So yes, while it may present as a long and irrelevant 1800's novel, it is worth reading for its timeless themes.

In his 1991 work, "What defines the Classics?", Calvino presented 14 definitions of a "classic" piece of literature. These include:
